Okay. Since this is an RX-7 Dedicated Forum and I don't THINK anyone here owns an RX-8, I felt like it might be interesting to see what RX-7 owners' views were on the RX-8. Personally, I think it was a good idea for Mazda to introduce the RX-8. However, I don't agree with some of the styling and interrior design. I'm NOT a fan of the "3rd door" idea. If Mazda wanted to introduce a true sports car, why have 3 doors? Secondly, a backseat? This pertains to the true sports car idea. True sports cars (as I've always understood) are RWD, 2 door, 2 seater coupes (many times the same car will be offered in a convertible option). Overall, I think Mazda did a halfway decent job making the Renesis reliable. I know the first few off the assembly line had some oil leaking issues but for the most part, they seem pretty durable. I guess only time will tell. P.S. *Shh* This is between you and me but I kinda think they look like a pregnant S2000. Enough of my critique. What do you guys think?

You said it all for me. Great idea to re-introduce the rotary. They did a good job on the renesis, but the body and interior were designed with yuppies and soccer-moms in mind. Destroying everything that the car originaly stood for. Not to mention it is more "tree-hugger" friendly.

I dont really care as long as they dont call it a 4th gen rx7 , which they didnt. The rx-8 is not meant to replace it, dont think. Its not the sweetest thing but ya most of ur comments are reasonable. The thing I like is they developed the renesis! maybe they can make a 3 rotor renesis and TT it and put it in a new 7

The RX-8 was never ment to be a true sports car. I think its alright. I would drive and own one if I could as a DD. The mazda speed RX8 ive heard about is going to be awsome if it actually comes out. It will be SC and put done respectalbe #s

I wonder if the parasitic loss from the belt driven SC is near the same as it would be on a V styled or Inline Styled motor?

a SC is never going to be as efficent as a TC, but what it does provide in a rotory is the low end power and torque its lacking. Plus its a hell of a lot easier to put on a SC in a RX8 then a TC because of the exhaust set up

Oh and anther thing on the RX8 it is extremly limited power wise due to emission requiremts by the US. A new computer in it will give you the 250 hp that was originally advertised

Hey, guys. Mr. Pres posted on the RX-8 forum so I thought I would drop in and say hi. My RX-8 is my first sports car so this is my first experience with the rotary. B4 I got my 8 I looked at the 350Z, S2000 and Crossfire. I didn't actually test drive any of them. Before I could drive one of them, my wife and I looked at the 8 and when she saw the back doors and rear seats, she said, "ok, you can get this one!" We still have 2 children so a 2 seater was out of the question. I love my 8. It has a very cl a$$y look and handles like a dream. I hope you guys don't think the 8 is going to replace the 7. I think it is a car unto it's own. It is slightly under powered compared to some of it's competitors but it handles better and in many ways looks better. The Renesis may be a good engine, but there still isn't a turbo available for it, it uses oil and gets TERRIBLE mpg. Anyway, in spite of it's flaws I still love mine. I just bought a piggy back for it and hope to squeeze a few more hp out of her.
Like I said earlier, I don't know anything about the 7 but I thought I'd drop in and say hello anyway.

I live in Conway. I'll post some pics after I get a chance to wash it. All this snow and rain has been really bad for her.
