Some of you who are more familiar with the 3rd gens may know of this or can point me in the right direction.
I have noted a few odd things on this car.
For one, none of the chimes / beepers sound if you leave the lights on with the ignition off, or when you leave the key in the ignition with it off and open the door.
Also, the alarm system apparently doesn't arm, no flashing yellow light on console behind the gear shift.
The really wierd one, if you have the headlights on for a few minutes, the seatbelt light will flash maniacally, regardless of the belts being latched in or not. While the light is flashing, if you use the turn indicator they both act like 4 way flashers on steroids. But if you put on the brakes they stop, until you let off the brake. You can turn the lights off then all is normal, except you can't drive at night. Well, you shouldn't at least.
I have checked all the fuses I can find under the hood and under the dash, nothing burned. I can't find anything obviously disconnected and also disconnected the battery for about 10 minutes and then reconnected it. No real change after that.
On some board I have seen where others have noted this problem when it's damp outside. He indicated running the heater full blast seems to alleviate the problem as the hot air must evaporate any moisture condensed on the offending part. Well from the time I got this car it has done nothing but rain.
Some pointed out if the battery voltage is low that can cause this. I checked that and mine was 12.5v, I think full charge is 12.6v. I put it on the charger for a while but the battery is new and in good, clean shape. I don't think there is an issue there.
Finally another cause listed was the failure of CPU No. 2. From what I have researched CPU 2 is responsible for the anti-theft operation so there may be something there. CPU Number 2? Hell, I only have ONE on my entire 84 SE! Good gosh I have a rolling IT nightmare now? Hah!
Any of you guys see anything like this, or know of anyone good at diagnosing these problems? Usually the worst thing to do is start throwing parts at electrical stuff...
