Here's the deal: I took my RX8 to NorthPoint Mazda for the usual $80 servicing. I also tell them the car has a rough idle (sorta feels like a miss) at a stop. The first question they ask me is, "Do you baby it?", "Cuz, it has carbon build-up and it needs to be abused! (as in run in higher rpm's)"
I normally do not take it over 5K rpm - is that bad? The only time I had it over that was going down the freeway doing 110mph in 6th gear.
Northpoint is telling me I need to run it most of the time between 4000 and 4500 rpm and take it up to 8500 rpm every once in a while.
Can anyone tell me if these higher rpms good for the vehicle and is it common to drive it like that?

I've heard this for the 7's I almost always drove mine in the upper half of the tach and never had problems.

Trae never lets his car drop below 5k rpms, I drive my 8 a little easier but it sees 9200 every time I get in the car.

the tC took some getting used to. I bounced the rev limiter constanly for the first month I owned it. BTW it was more like 4 to 4.5k, but close enough. Always stayed in that spot were the power was ready when you wanted it. I drive the tC easier, and I really miss driving my FC.

Some ole Seafoam will take care of your problem. Run it through your gas once-in-a-while. You could probably benefit from pouring a little in the rotor housings or running it in your oil for about 500 miles. Just be prepared for some extra soot on the back of your car.

I'm not gonna lie, I didn't buy my Rx-7 to be looked at. It's good for you, and the car to open it up every once in a while. If you really wanna take care of it, Interstate driving should do the trick... its got 9k rpm red line!! you should at least take it near that!
