thats hard to say. does he have compression numbers on the motor? could be a vac leak, bad exhaust gasket, blown turbos or weak motor. what color is the smoke? and the rought idle at start up could just be from the port size. if i had to guess id say combo between bad turbos and vac leak.
and ive never heard of clean and fast.

Never heard of clean & fast either and I'm sort of thinking the problem can be somewhat easily solved. Pretty sure I can get the car for $7k. I'll consider the car, but I may try to just shoot for something nicer.

Sounds to me like a chipped apex seal or stuck side seal. I would have my money on the apex seal.

Although for that price it is still a decent deal. When I blew my motor several years ago it had very similar symptoms to what he is describing. I even got lucky, the chip that broke off exited quickly and did very little damage.

If I get one its going to have to replace the 8 for a year or so. So I'd prefer something with only small problems.
