This isn't 100%, I haven't validated it yet, but I think it will work.
The pre FD RX-7 transmission use this little spring that coils around the shifter to center the the 3/4 gears from the 1/2. You rarely ever see one work right and is usally broke like most of them are, its pain the ass the change. Well I was sitting and looking at one of my Miata transmission and one of my turbo ii boxes and noticed that Miata shifter spring setup (which is pretty awesome) looks like it will bolt right up to the plate on the side of the pre FD transissions replacing the bullexcrement spring setup. Nice thing about this, you change this out with the transmission still the car. 4 10mm bolts and your done.
If I find time his weekend I will check if it will work out.
Turbo Miata guys tend to break a few transmissions, so it will not be too hard to find one. Hell I have a broke transmissoin.

Yes, if where talking about the same part I replaced mine with a T2 trany part when I replaced the 5th gear syncro in my car 2 years ago. I also installed a short shifter (ebay) that works great.
