I think your car might have been wrecked before. Floor damage like that doesn't happen under minor fender benders.

wow...what does the bottom of the car look like? I can't see any signs of impact on teh bottom of the car so no clue there. As far as when this happened, I just can't believe I never noticed this before. Also there are paint chips hanging on still. Just laying a towel on them would break them off, so it had to happen after i took the rear bins off.

I think your car might have been wrecked before. Floor damage like that doesn't happen under minor fender benders. Doh, the other week I was dynomatting the rear floor. I noticed some ugly, extremely not factory welds behind the very back rear pannels around where the tail lights go. Yup, this car has been wrecked/rebuilt. I was pretty dissapointed at first. But it makes sense, cause this car is extremely rough around the edges. I ended up deciding that from now on, if its a race/street question, the answer will be on the race side. Example being suspension bushing replacement. Mazda bushings are nice and cushy (kinda) but solid mounts dont wear out and give you extreme suspension response. So i'm going solid mounts. Same with the diff, i'm going all out race on it as well. Kaaz diff (once i rob a bank). Its louder and grabs more, but its stout. V8's and my abuse requires stout components.

Doh... this happened a few weeks ago at the drag strip. I should have bought that kaaz rear end sooner. I just picked up an extra TII diff Trae had so the beast should be on the road again soon.

I recommend spending the 200 for parts to rebuild that diff you bought from Trae, most of them are worn out this time and day.

Bushings are made, bearings are on order, seals are in. Knock on wood, but this turd should be roaming the streets next week sometime! Its been down for a few weeks and its killing me.

well...the car is back together. Kinda.
I drove it today with open headers and very few interior panels. It was loud as hell and the rear end howls like a hungry wolf at a full moon. I guess I'm going to go ahead and put the exhaust back together so I can try to decifer if its a gear or bearing noise.

Random update -
Car has been back on the road for about 3 weeks. Finally getting around to some of the little stuff. Interior is 90% back in. Makes for a much quieter ride.
The rear axle got 3.90 gears with TII carrier. So far its holding up.
Installed a new Driver side headlight and the dumb passenger side flew off the same night. I couldn't help but laugh at the irony. I used some backstrap from a stereo install and some apoxy to build some new tabs. I'd say they are 2x stronger then the stock tabs.
I'm hoping to pick up some drag radials and hit centerville in the next few weeks. I never have got my alignment quite right. I'm trying to get the steering to feel a little lighter before I hit the road courses. New struts/springs are in the works sometime down the road.
Paint is also a thought, but its costly so it will probably be last in the list.

good to hear. I would like to make it to centerville one of these days. We should have a meet there some day. I will get my car painted........ in about 10 years!

Today I learned that one of my wheels is bent. Major bummer. At least I have another set I can use for a while.
Just name a weekend and I'll make it to Centerville. I'd take on some rotories :-).

hrm.... I got my motor/tranny for $200 (bought car/parted it out for all but $200 of what i paid for it)
Hinson subframe/fuel system/hydraulics/cooling - $2600 Vehicle $4500 Random stuff (oil, tires, tools, etc) - $1000
So call it $3500-$4000 for everything not counting motor/tranny/car
It can be done cheaper if you piece it together, but I just went for the proven ways.
